as already has been stated, i too belive that most people, not only JWs, don't make much efforts in thinking for themselves. and this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with education, while it might help

Why JWs Often Have a Hard Time Thinking For Themselves
by Jeremy C intoday, cedars had a really good post on a questions from readers article in which the watchtower instructs jws to consult the watchtower library index when they have questions on personal matters.
the watchtower article explained that the branch cannot answer all personal inquiries that come into their offices.
this post got me thinking about an area that i gave a lot of thought to prior to; and after leaving the organization.

well, i wonder who he helps really... while JWs are quite bad, there are much worse groups out there.
i wouldn't even be surprised if he was on the WT payroll. theocratic warfare and stuff

JWs relieved when judges decree their kids must have a blood transfusion
by MrMonroe indanny haszard tweeted the following story from the flordia sun-sentinel: state butts in to give kids a life.
it's a fascinating story that shows the real attitude of many parents of young children who become seriously ill. though ordered by their religion to refuse transfusions and simply accept that their child may die as a result, some parents willingly accept the right of the state to decree that a transfusion must take place if doctors so decide.. no parent wants their child to die, and it would simply tear them apart to know that a reasonably simple and routine medical practice could save their life ... yet they would be shunned by their family and friends if they accepted.
the solution is to hope like hell the state steps in, allowing them to say to their congregation, "well, what can you do?

i sat in that room with my wife and the doctor and his assistant. my wifes JW family was waiting outside. our newborn baby was in intensive care. it was a life or death situation. the doctor said, that blood would have to be given.
so i said "doctor, do you know about jehovah's witnesses and blood?" he nodded. i told him "me and my wife grew up as JWs. i no longer belive any of it. but there's all her family outside and they are adding to the pressure we already have." then i asked "tell me what can i tell them?" so he described exactly what was going to be done including some things that JWs now are allowed to accept. those were the parts i later told to all the JWs who came along and asked for details (including my mother and the in-laws).
a few long and hard weeks later, after a very long surgery, our baby was put back to intensive care along with a huge blood transfusion hanging on his bed. coincidentally only my wife and me were there at that time with the family waiting downstairs. i also asked the doctors to tell me when they'd have to give more blood, so i could tell the family to leave in the meantime (with some excuse they provided me with).

When ppl drink
by Dudu ini have noticed that when ppl drink usually say things that wont otherwise .... according to your opinion and experience , drunk ppl usually tell the truth about their feelings about some situations?.

when drunk, many people tell more than they should, but not necessarily true things. depends on the situation and how drunk. when drunk one probably finds something really funny when actually it isn't. or exaggerates things. that's the worst thing in hangovers, when you still remember part of what you said...

well, blood and DFing is not a non-issue, but it definately wasn't the thing that got me thinking.

Bemused...
by dozy ingot chatting to an old jw friend last night that i haven't spoken to for years & caught up with a lot of old gossip.
he is still active - high-up - knows the fault lines in the jw system but stays because he "doesn't know where else to go" & it works ok for him & his family.
whatever floats his boat... anyway........he told me a piece of news that totally floored me.... a jw in london has run off with another sister & been dfd.

spending so much time for a printing corporation doesn't help in building a real relationship. weekends should be for family and friends, not for knocking on stranger's doors.

actually the belief that there are still various human races alive today already makes you a racist.
the whole "asians are smart", "africans have enormous dicks", "native americans love nature" is racist too.
just wanted to point that out.

let's see. i don't like having people tell me what type of clothing to wear, how to cut my hair, how to shave my beard, what music to listen to or what websites to visit. i can't go around knocking doors to tell people that humans were created 6000 years ago along with a talking snake, that a 600 years old guy collected all types of animals into a little box while god drowned the rest and that god will kill all people who don't believe that really soon. i can't stand having someone trying to make me work more and more and more and asking me if i turned in my report on time. it makes my stomach hurt when i have to listen to their talks about chronology and second fulfillments.
if they'd stop the DFing and the blood nonsense, i'd really like that. but there's just nothing good in that religion. not one good thing that i would need that religion for - or any other for that matter.
